About Jack E Nelson
Writing personal and family histories was a hobby for me long before it became a livelihood. In the course of working on family histories, I became well aware that relatively few people leave a recorded narrative of their life story. Profiles can often be pieced together from old letters and personal papers, but finding a memoir, a diary or lengthy personal journal is rare. Yet, when such a record can be found, it can be a wellspring of understanding, opening windows on the past for members of subsequent generations.
With this in mind, I decided to devote myself to assisting others in preserving their legacies and sharing their life stories with friends and family members. I bring to the task nine years of teaching and publishing experience, mostly at Temple University; proficiency in the writing of local histories, memoirs and biographies; plus a perceptive interviewing style; and desktop publishing expertise.
The Charlotte Observer featured the work I do in an article awhile back, together with suggestions on how to get started working on a personal history project.
